The monastic day joins communal worship, private prayer, the Agpeya, spiritual reading, manual labor, and service, allowing every task to become part of continuous communion with God.
Prayer and liturgy
Monastics rise early for the canonical hours, praises, and Divine Liturgy. Each person also keeps a private prayer rule and spends time in quiet prayer and meditation. The Jesus Prayer is frequently used to train the heart in remembrance of Christ.
Work and service
Manual work may include agriculture, baking Orban, crafts, publishing, maintenance, hospitality, and care for guests. Work sustains the monastery, serves others, and guards the mind against idleness.
Solitude within community
Even in communal monasteries, time in the cell remains important. Silence, spiritual reading, and watchfulness support the shared liturgical life.
